Ishmael Armarh Ghana, b. 1986

Ishmael Armarh is a contemporary artist renowned for his unique visual expression and thematic exploration inspired by historical and mythological figures. His work reflects a post-contemporary and post-human perspective and explores Africanism narratives that mirror the essence of African’s youth.

After having studied graphic design and painting at Ghanatta College of Art & Design in Accra, Armarh started to feature bright colors, prominent brush strokes, and black figures to convey a deep connection to his native environment. His compositions, adorned with accessories, exude a royal attribute, while the mosaic background creates an innovative texture with cultural significance.

Armarh's career reached new heights in 2021 when he was selected as a Visiting Fellow at the Noldor residency. The following year, in 2022, he held his first solo exhibition at Chilli Art Projects in London, UK and his first group exhibition at Ron Mondos in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
